The Wisconsin football program has been poking around in the transfer portal early, and signs have indicated that the Badgers are in the market for a quarterback.

Tanner Mordecai will play his last collegiate game in UW’s bowl game on January 1st. With a ton of youth behind Mordecai, Wisconsin could be an attractive landing spot for a transfer QB.

UW has stayed in the rumor mill early for transfer quarterbacks. Wisconsin was named as a potential school to watch for Kansas State transfer Will Howard a few days ago, and the Badgers popped back up as a school to watch for a quarterback that has given the defense fits.

Wisconsin Football Named a School to Watch for Standout Washington State QB

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Wisconsin is among the schools to watch for Washington State transfer Cameron Ward.

Ward, who led Washington State to a win over the Badgers in week two, finished the 2023 season with 3,735 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 66 percent of his pass attempts. On top of that, Ward logged 144 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

Ward spent his first two seasons at Incarnate Word before transferring to Washington State. Since joining the Cougars, Ward has turned heads with his standout play through the air and on the ground. The 6-foot-2, 223-pound quarterback has recorded career totals of 13,874 passing yards, 119 touchdowns and 30 interceptions, with 265 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.

Given his resume and the other teams named as schools to watch, this could be a really tough battle for Wisconsin. That said, it could be one of Ward’s best options. Playing time is up for the taking, and Ward’s skillset would translate very nicely to Phil Longo’s scheme.

I’d say the Badgers may have somewhat of an outside chance here, but either way, Wisconsin has made it clear they are shopping for a quarterback in the transfer portal. Landing a player of Ward’s caliber could be a program-altering move by Luke Fickell and company, but we’ll just have to wait and see if the staff can work some magic.

The portal has officially opened as of Monday, December 4th. Buckle up, Wisconsin football fans.
