The Wisconsin football program appears to be the current leader in the recruitment of a top-20 running back in the 2026 recruiting class.
Amari Latimer, a 2026 four-star running back and Georgia native, is currently ranked the 17th-overall running back in the 2026 class. Latimer was on campus this weekend and had a chance to meet the staff in Madison for some productive conversations. The running back left impressed, but it does not appear as though Wisconsin has pulled far enough ahead of other programs for a commitment to be certain yet.
According to 247 Sports, Latimer currently has a medium confidence crystal ball prediction to land in Madison in the future. The running back stated that Wisconsin has “as good of a chance as anyone” following the official visit.
Latimer currently holds over 40 scholarship offers with major programs believing the recruit is a priority target. Wisconsin, Texas, and Michigan are believed to be the top programs in the recruitment of Latimer, with the Badgers taking a slight lead following a successful visit weekend.
With Latimer possibly leaning towards Wisconsin following a successful visit, the real question now is whether or not the Badgers can hold on as the running back continues the rest of his schedule.
Latimer is scheduled to visit Michigan, Texas, and then Georgia over the course of the next month. The recruit likely will not make a decision until the final visit is made, but anything can happen as time progresses. The Wisconsin football staff will have to work to hold onto the small lead that has currently been created with the visit already out of the way.
Wisconsin running backs coach Devon Spalding also made a recent home visit and spoke with Latimer.

If Wisconsin were to land Latimer, that would be considered one of the biggest recruiting wins the program has seen. The Badgers going deep into Georgia and landing a commitment over the Bulldogs and two other championship contenders would also put other programs on notice.
Wisconsin had once appeared afraid or uninterested in battling top programs for talent which resulted in a reduced recruiting pool. Now however, the Wisconsin football staff and coach Luke Fickell have aimed to push for the best possible fits into the team regardless of status or interested teams.
Latimer is the type of running back that could certainly set Wisconsin football apart on the field from other types of play. The dynamic running back can do a bit of everything on the field, with an eye for every bit of open space.
Landing Latimer would also continue a run of success that the Wisconsin football program has had recruiting the running back position. The Badgers landed four-star running back Dilin Jones, three-star Darrion Dupree, and three-star Gideon Ituka in the 2024 recruiting class.
