WVU HC Neal Brown gave injury updates on safety Aubrey Burks and linebacker Trey Lathan following Saturday’s win over TCU.

Brown said that Burks is spending the night in a Fort Worth hospital for further observation but he is hearing good reports. Lathan will be having season-ending leg surgery, according to Brown, and will also be spending the night in Fort Worth.

“It’s not good,” Brown said about Lathan’s leg injury.

Brown also said that Lathan was on the cart watching the remainder of the game on his phone, fist pumping when he saw both of the blocked kicks. Lathan was taken out of the game in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a broken leg. Lathan was placed in an air cast.

WVU QB Garrett Greene told the media that Burks has feeling and movement in his extremities. Burks was taken out of the game in the second quarter following a knee to the head. WVU trainers got to Burks and quickly called for a backboard and a cart. It took about 10 trainers working together to get Burks onto the backboard and loaded into the cart. Burks’ teammates and coaches took a knee and could be seen hugging and consoling one another while he was being attended to.

West Virginia’s chippy game with the Horned Frogs has resulted in three players leaving the game, two being carted off and several others experiencing close calls.

WV Sports Now will continue to update Burks’ injury as well as Lathan’s recovery.
