After a wildly disappointing 3-9 season, Wyoming has a much better team returning. The offense struggled too much in close loss after close loss, including a 17-13 clunker to Idaho from the FCS early in the campaign.

This year's team has a shot to get off to a good start with Northern Iowa coming to Laramie after returning from Akron.

The Zips keep on trying under head coach Joe Moorhead, but they haven't had a winning season since 2015. They should be a pesky bunch after closing last season with two straight wins.

They need this home game with a date at Nebraska next, followed by a trip to UAB.

Why Akron Will Win

Akron has the quarterback.

Ben Finley has been around the block, working at NC State and Cal before ending up with the Zips. Wyoming's line might be good, but the pass rush has to prove itself. If Finley and the Zip attack can get up right away, the Cowboys don't have the sure-thing firepower to keep up.

Wyoming will score more than 15 points. However, the last time Akron hit the field, it beat Toledo 21-14.

It'll be a grind for both sides. Akron needs a bunch of new defensive players to step up after losing several top guys through the transfer portal. At home, though, Finley and the Zips will get up early and make the Cowboys earn it.

Akron needs the running game to work to win this, and it won't have quite enough to do it.
