Concordia University, Nebraska, suffered a major loss last Friday. The institution confirmed one student was killed and three others were injured in a car crash.

Matthew Wing drove a Toyota Prius when it collided head-on into a Ford Explorer around 10:30 p.m. Wing, 22, died in the crash in Harrisonville, Missouri. The other three student-athletes were rushed to the hospital.

KOLN-TV reported that the Prius caught fire after the Ford Explorer traveling in the southbound lanes collided with the vehicle traveling northbound. The crash report described the other driver as a 30-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Concordia University Mourns Death Of Matthew Wing

The university issued a statement on Matthew Wing’s death. Its website showed that the other three injured belonged to the track and field team. They lamented the news with a touching message.

“Our Concordia Nebraska family is heartbroken. We ask for your prayers during this time, for our campus and for the family and friends of the young men involved in this accident, that we can all find comfort in God’s love and healing grace.”
