Abhishek Sharma is in scintillating form ahead of Punjab’s match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He showed his six-hitting ability in the net session. According to PTI, he was at his best and looked to continue from where he left off in 2025 with the Indian T20I team.
For almost 60 minutes at the Anantam Cricket Ground, the No.1 T20I batter hit 45 sixes in a session. He was focusing on hitting big shots on a pitch that favoured the spinners.
He faced spinners on a track that was not perfect for stroke-making as the balls climbed or kept low. Abhishek was troubled by short balls, but his footwork helped him to deal with challenging deliveries.
After being beaten, he used his feet and stepped out to target the gaps. Whenever the length was pulled back, he went down the track to lift the ball with ease.
Some of the shots went over the extra cover region, showing his intent to dominate the slow bowlers. On several occasions, the ball covered a long distance, with teammates and support staff admiring the young batter.
The position of the net was changed towards short extra cover to punish mistimed shots. Abhishek was undone once but made corrections, going straight to keep the scoreboard moving.
Due to the rules and regulations, Abhishek was not allowed to bat on the main pitch. He also bowled and exchanged inputs with the coaches.
The session once again highlighted Abhishek’s readiness ahead of the game. The ease with which he cleared the ropes suggested that he was ready to carry his form into the domestic tournament. He will also play against New Zealand in the five-match T20I series.
