The next Indian cricket team coach will be appointed on December 31, 2027, when he will complete his tenure, which will cover the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rahul Dravid is to finish this contract in June 2024, after the T20 World Cup. It is also reported that the BCCI has posted a notice for interested applicants to send their applications for the coaching job to the board by May 27th.
Famous names likely to contend include Stephen Fleming, Ricky Ponting, and Gautam Gambhir.
The Indian Express has reported that Stephen Fleming has been informally approached by the top brass of the BCCI to take up the post for the next three years. NZC’s overseas coach, who has been handling CSK for the last few years, is well-bred with Indian players and grounds. But the report also mentioned that the new coach would require 10 months of cricket duties in India every year, and such commitment could keep Fleming from accepting the offer.
Viswanathan is the CSK CEO, though; he has discredited these reports, claiming that Fleming has never informed the team of the requirements for this position. ‘I have not heard anything like this. I have not heard Stephen Flemming say anything to CSK’, Viswanathan told Sports Now.
IPL 2024 has seen the end of CSK’s path. On Monday, CSK posted an interesting tribute to their coach on social media: ‘Our gaffer that guides our every move, that sets every roar, that backs up our every step!’
The BCCI has outlined specific qualifications and experience requirements for the new Indian Head Coach.
