Andries Gous made his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut on Friday, turning out for Islamabad United in the league’s tenth edition opener at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.

The South African-American cricketer, who played for the United States in the 2024 T20 World Cup, was named in Islamabad’s playing XI against defending champions Lahore Qalandars. Gous, known for his explosive batting, managed just 4 runs on debut before being bowled by Asif Afridi.

Islamabad United elected to field first after winning the toss. Jason Holder’s impressive 4-26 spell and Shadab Khan’s 3-25 helped bowl out the Qalandars for 139. Despite early wickets, United chased down the target with ease. Colin Munro anchored the innings with a solid unbeaten 59 off 42 balls, steering his side to an eight-wicket win with 14 balls to spare.

Gous’ PSL debut marks another milestone in his evolving T20 career. After rising through South Africa’s domestic ranks with Free State and later moving to the U.S. in 2021, he quickly established himself in Minor League Cricket and on the international stage. In 2024, he also made history in the Nepal Premier League, becoming the first player to score a century in the tournament.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in Pakistan, featuring six city-based franchises. Organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the league began in 2015 and has become one of the most popular T20 competitions globally.
