India’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel delivered a stunning delivery to dismiss Australia’s Matt Renshaw during the second ODI of the three-match series at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, October 23. The wicket came on the fourth ball of the 22nd over of Australia’s innings.

Axar flighted the ball invitingly, tempting Renshaw to step out and play over mid-off. However, the delivery drifted sharply, beat the outside edge, and crashed into middle and leg stumps, giving Axar his first wicket of the game. You can watch the video here:

The left-hander made a brisk 30 off 30 balls, hitting a four and a six, before his dismissal reduced Australia to 109/3 in 21.4 overs.

India Strike Consistently To Keep Pressure On Australia In 2nd ODI

After being sent in to bat first, India didn’t begin well, losing openers Shubman Gill (9) and Virat Kohli (0) cheaply. Former skipper Rohit Sharma steadied the innings with a composed 73, while vice-captain Shreyas Iyer chipped in with a solid 61.

Axar Patel added a valuable 44 in the middle order, and towards the end, Harshit Rana’s unbeaten 24 provided India with a much-needed late flourish, taking the total to 264/9 from 50 overs. In reply, Australia’s opening pair, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, adopted a cautious approach, managing just 11 runs in the first five overs.

Arshdeep Singh gave India their first breakthrough by dismissing Marsh for 11 off 24 balls in the eighth over. Soon after, Harshit Rana struck to remove Head, who made 28 from 40 deliveries. Matt Renshaw then joined Matthew Short, and the duo added 55 runs off 56 balls for the third wicket to rebuild Australia’s innings.

However, Axar Patel broke the stand by bowling Renshaw for 30. At the time of writing, Australia were 130/3 after 26 overs, with Matthew Short unbeaten on 50 and Alex Carey on 8.
