Axar Patel dismissed Australia captain Mitchell Marsh with a crucial breakthrough for India in the third ODI at Sydney on Saturday, October 25. The left-arm spinner sent Marsh back for 41 runs off 50 balls, which included one six and five boundaries, giving the Men in Blue their second wicket.
The key moment came in the 16th over when Axar delivered a full-length ball on the fourth stump line that moved inward. Marsh, expecting it to turn away, tried to create room to drive over cover. However, the delivery held its line, sneaking past his inside edge and crashing into the top of the off-stump.

Axar Patel has shone with both bat and ball in the ongoing ODI series. The left-arm spinner contributed 31 and 44 runs in the first two matches, while also claiming a wicket in each game. The all-rounder was selected over Ravindra Jadeja for India’s squad in the current 50-over series.
Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj removed Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, respectively, to help India claim both Australian openers in the third ODI. Siraj struck first, sending Head back for 29 caught at backward point, giving the Men in Blue an early breakthrough.
At the time, Australia were 102/2 in 17.2 overs, with Matthew Short and Matt Renshaw at the crease. The visitors already hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, having won the first two ODIs by seven wickets (DLS method) and two wickets.
This marks Australia’s second consecutive ODI series triumph over India at home, following their 2-1 win in 2020-21. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is yet to register his first win as India’s new ODI captain. The 26-year-old took over from Rohit Sharma earlier in the series.
India also haven’t won an ODI at Sydney since 2016, having lost their last three matches at the venue.
