Axar Patel is uncertain for their Super Four match against Pakistan on Sunday after taking a blow to the head while fielding during the Group A match against Oman in Abu Dhabi. He left the field after getting injured.
The injury took place during the 15th over of Oman’s chase, when Hammad Mirza mishit a shot towards mid-off. Axar dashed to field the ball, but while attempting to gather it, he lost his balance and hit his head on the turf. He was seen clutching his head and neck, and with the help of the physio, he left the field. India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, provided an update on Axar’s injury during the post-match conference.
“I just saw Axar, and he seems fine at the moment. That’s all I can say for now. As for the Pakistan game, everyone is prepared. We approach every match the same way,” T Dilip said.
Axar made a valuable contribution with the bat in Abu Dhabi, scoring 26 off 13 balls, including three fours and a six, helping accelerate India’s innings. He bowled one over, conceding four runs. If Axar is unavailable, India may face a selection dilemma.
The defending champions will be pleased with their perfect record so far, having won all three group games, and will look to maintain their momentum in the upcoming match against Pakistan. Out of the 14 meetings, India have won 10, with Pakistan winning three and one match ending in a tie.
