Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan has earned a call-up to the Bangladesh 16-player squad for Asia Cup, announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday. He last played a T20I three years ago, in November 2022 during the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Apart from Nurul, Saif Hasan also returns to the T20I mix after a considerable gap of one and a half-year. The batter last represented Bangladesh in the Asian Games 2023 before being left out.

Nurul was drawing the attention of the selections through his performances in domestic cricket. The 31-year-old stumper even featured for the Bangladesh A team recently. He also led Rangpur Riders to the inaugural  Global Super League title in 2024.

Mehidy Hassan Miraz, who was part of the last T20I squad that beat Pakistan 2-1, could not hang onto his spot in the 16-member squad, and has been placed in the reserve list. Mohammad Naim could also not retain his position as he couldn’t quite couldn’t translate his domestic T20 form into international runs. Apart from Mehidy, Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam and Hasan Mahmud were picked as standbys for the Asia Cup. There was no room for former T20I skipper Najmul Hossain in the list of extras.

This squad will also compete in the upcoming three-match T20 international series against the Netherlands in Sylhet starting on August 30. The Asian Tigers will be in action on August 30, and September 1 and 3 before their Asia Cup campaign kicks off against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi on September 11.
