Perth Scorchers defeated Sydney Sixers by six wickets in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 final at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, January 25. The Scorchers became a record-extending six-time champions of the BBL with this triumph.

The Scorchers didn't put a foot wrong since Ashton Turner won the bat flip and opted to bowl first. The Sixers got off to a sedate start, losing two wickets in the powerplay and putting just 37 runs on the board. Wickets kept falling through the middle overs as Steve Smith, Josh Philippe, and Moises Henriques failed to convert their starts on a two-paced track.

The Sixers scratched and clawed their way to 132, losing their last wicket off the final ball. Jhye Richardson and David Payne bagged three wickets apiece for the Scorchers.

In reply, Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen got the team off to a sensational start. They added 80 runs inside nine overs before Allen was dismissed for 36. Aaron Hardie fell in the following over before Marsh and Josh Inglis took the team towards the below-par target. Marsh and Turner departed in consecutive overs.

In the end, it was Inglis and Cooper Connolly who took the Scorchers over the line with six wickets and 15 balls to spare. The former hit a six to finish the run chase.

Top batting performances of the match — Finn Allen

Finn Allen needed just four runs to become the highest run-getter in this BBL season. He slammed 36 off 22 balls, taking full advantage of the field restrictions inside the powerplay. The Kiwi batter belted four fours and one six during his enterprising knock. It needed a special catch from Jack Edwards to end his dream campaign.

Top bowling performance of the match — David Payne

David Payne's three wickets through the middle overs put the Scorchers in the ascendency. The experienced left-arm pacer bowled with tremendous control, giving no freebies whatsoever for the Sydney batters.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved

Perth Scorchers now have the most title wins in franchise T20 leagues (6).
Ashton Turner won his third BBL final as skipper. No other captain has won more BBL finals than him.
Turner also became the first to win five BBL finals as a player.
Finn Allen finished with most sixes in a BBL edition (38). He surpassed Mitchell Owen's record of 36 sixes in the 2024-25 season.

David Payne took the crucial wickets of Josh Philippe, Moises Henriques, and Lachlan Shaw through the middle overs to peg the Sixers back. Henriques and Co. never really recovered from the setbacks. Payne finished with excellent figures of 3/18 in four overs.
