Usman Tariq is set to become Warwickshire Bears overseas signing for this summer's T20 Blast. The 30-year-old has made headlines in the past few seasons thanks to some eye-catching performances on the T20 circuit playing across the world.
Tariq first rose to prominence as a pivotal performer in 2025 after excelling in the Pakistan Super League and the Caribbean Premier League. As a reward for his T20 efforts, the slow-left-armer was handed his T20 International call-up making his debut for Pakistan against South Africa in November 2025.
It did not take him long to make headlines as he achieved a hat-trick in just his second T20I against Zimbabwe taking wickets with consecutive deliveries in the fourth over of the match. Since then he has picked up 18 wickets in his 9 international matches at a career economy rate of 6.66 runs per over.
Despite having only appeared in two first-class matches Tariq has amassed a fine record in T20 cricket with 89 wickets in 60 matches.
The Bears admitted they faced fierce competition from clubs across the globe to secure the 30-year old's signature but they were successful. Tariq will also be playing in the Birmingham Phoenix's The Hundred fixtures, to be played at Edgbaston.
Director of Warwickshire's performance James Thomas seemed delighted to sign the star and sang the praises of his abilities:
James said:
"Usman is exactly the type of high-impact player that we want to have at Warwickshire so we're extremely happy that this deal is completed. His bowling technique and tactical awareness make him a genuine threat in the modern game of white ball cricket but it is the drive he possesses to perform and consistently improve that we love".
His bowling technique has also been a source of discussion in the past after two on-field umpires during the 2024 and 2025 Pakistan Super League reported him twice on grounds of action concerns however he was cleared on both occasions after further examination.
Warwickshire will begin their T20 Blast campaign, now being played under the Bears name after ditching 'Birmingham' for their T20 fixtures against Gloucestershire on Friday, May 22. Their first home fixture will be against Somerset two days later at Edgbaston and Bears will be looking to improve their recent performances by adding his impressive skill set and attacking power.
