Having asked to bat first, Pathum Nissanka got Delhi off to a flying start scoring a quick-fire fifty off 29 balls and KL Rahul also chipped in with 23 runs. The Delhi inning fell away in the middle overs as they lost wickets at regular intervals. A late surge from Ashutosh Sharma with 39 off 28 balls was not enough for the Capitals to post a decent total on a good batting pitch. Anukul Roy and Kartik Tyagi bagged a couple of wickets each for KKR with Sunil Narine and Cameron Green scalping one wicket each.
KKR had an early setback as Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed in the second over and later on Angkrish Raghuvanshi had an unlucky dismissal at the personal score of 1. However, it was Finn Allen who changed the course of the game with some fearless batting against both pace and spin from the outset. He took the attack to the Delhi bowlers in the powerplay itself and never allowed the bowlers to get in their rhythm. Kuldeep Yadav went for 41 in his 3 overs, Vipraj Nigam was taken for 34 in his 2 overs and he slammed his first IPL ton to secure a crucial eight-wicket win for KKR with more than 5 overs to spare.
