England on Tuesday, December 30, announced their provisional squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Sam Curran has earned a recall following a string of strong performances in franchise cricket. The selected group will also take part in a T20I series against Sri Lanka in the lead-up to the global tournament.
Curran, who featured in the previous T20 World Cup, is currently the fourth-highest run-scorer in ILT20 2025. Representing the Desert Vipers, the left-hander has accumulated 285 runs in 10 matches at an average of 35.92, while also picking up seven wickets. He will be keen to strengthen his case during the Sri Lanka series.
Right-arm pacer Josh Tongue, who played a pivotal role in England’s Ashes triumph in Melbourne, has received his maiden T20 World Cup call-up. Meanwhile, Jofra Archer will miss the Sri Lanka tour as he continues to recover from a side strain sustained during the Ashes, although he has been provisionally named in the World Cup squad.
Spin-bowling all-rounder Liam Dawson is another notable inclusion after impressing in the home series against the West Indies. He is set to share spin responsibilities alongside Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed.

Meanwhile, England suffered a 68-run defeat at the hands of eventual champions India in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024, played in Guyana. The two-time winners are set to open their World Cup campaign this year against Nepal on February 8 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
