The social media platform is currently experiencing confusion because a viral image shows that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a one-year suspension on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Pakistan cricket faces an uncertain period because of the ongoing problems with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The statement which went viral is proven to be false through comprehensive fact checking.

The X platform (formerly known as Twitter) displays a widely circulated image which presents itself as an official media release from the ICC. The ICC conducted a meeting which resulted in a 14-2 vote that imposed a one-year ban on Pakistan cricket according to the document. The letter states that Pakistan will not host ICC events until 2040 because Pakistan’s ICC revenue share has been reduced and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been suspended.

Viral Claim Emerges Amid T20 World Cup Tension

The Pakistani government announced its national team would not participate in the group-stage match against India on February 15 in the T20 World Cup 2026 and this led to the spread of the fake statement. The match was scheduled to be played in Colombo.

After Bangladesh got eliminated from the tournament the Pakistani government indicated it would participate only in specific World Cup matches leading to reports that the ICC might take severe measures against Pakistan. The online environment helped the fake ICC letter become widespread.

An X user uploaded the viral image which included the phrase "ICC HAS BANNED PAKISTAN CRICKET BOARD FOR ONE YEAR" which caused many users to believe the statement was true.

Fact Check: Claim Is False

CricketGully has checked the claim and found it to be completely false. The ICC has not issued any media release announcing a ban on Pakistan cricket or the PCB.

A keyword search led to an official ICC statement released on February 1, titled ‘ICC Statement on ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026’. The statement from the ICC shows that the Pakistani government reported its decision to choose which events to attend but no ban has been established.

The ICC stated that selective participation goes against the spirit of a global sporting event and warned that such actions could hurt the integrity and fairness of international cricket. The statement showed that Pakistan cricket would not face any disciplinary measures which included punishment or sanctions or financial penalties.

CricketGully checked the official ICC website to find that no announcement about a PCB ban has been made.

Conclusion

The viral image claiming that the ICC has banned Pakistan cricket for one year is fake. During the T20 World Cup period fans should only depend on official ICC announcements and reliable sources for precise information.
