Disputes over selections between Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League are back under discussion after certain players were banned after opting to play for the league that suited them more. Due to overlaps, overseas players are forced to choose between the two.

Known as the richest T20 league in the world and due to its higher value contracts and global spotlight, some players have backed out of their PSL selection for an IPL stint. However the PCB acted swift in this regard, handing ban to players for breaching contracts. Till now, three players have been formally banned by the PCB for opting to play in the IPL.

Players Banned from PSL for Opting to Play IPL

Corbin Bosch

The all-rounder from South Africa, Corbin Bosch, was picked by Peshawar Zalmi as their diamond category player for the 2025 edition of the PSL. The player later pulled out due to his selection in the Mumbai Indians in the 2025 edition of the IPL as a replacement for Lizaad Williams. The player later faced serious backlash for his decision.

The PCB served a legal notice for breach of contract. Upon review of the matter, they handed Bosch a one year ban from all forms of cricket, thus ruling him out of the 2026 edition of the PSL.

Blessing Muzarabani

Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani was announced to join PSL 2026 as a replacement player of Islamad United but finally the pacer had changed his mind to join IPL 2026 after an offer from Kolkata Knight Riders to be the replacement of Mustafizur Rahman.

PCB had responded very seriously by giving Muzarabani a two-year ban in PSL. The bowler in his defence argued that he hadn't signed any contract with Islamad United but the PCB while admitting that no contract was signed had still continued to give ban saying there was an oral agreement.

Dasun Shanaka

Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka was drafted in by Lahore Qalandars for PKR 75 lac during the PSL 2026 auction but decided to withdraw his participation before the tournament began and later went to join IPL 2026 with Rajasthan Royals being their replacement for the injured Sam Curran.

It was learned that Shanaka had been handed a contract worth INR 2 crore for IPL and upon his withdrawal the PCB awarded him with a one-year ban making him ineligible to participate in next season of PSL.
