Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir couldn’t help but laugh as Shubman Gill won his first toss as Test captain on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Star Sports shared a video on X showing Gill’s teammates smiling and congratulating him.
The 26-year-old, who started his captaincy during India’s five-Test tour of England in June, had lost all tosses in that series. He was also on the losing side for the toss in the first Test of the current series at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Securing his first toss win as captain, Shubman Gill’s teammates and the support staff were clearly amused.

India opted to field the same playing XI for the second and final Test.
At lunch on Day 1 of the second Test in Delhi, India had lost just one wicket. The hosts were 94/1 after 28 overs in the opening session. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican dismissed KL Rahul for 38 off 54 balls, stumping him in the 18th over and ending the 58-run opening partnership. Despite breaking the stand, the West Indies couldn’t create further opportunities in the session.
The visitors made two changes to their XI, bringing in Tevlin Imlach and Anderson Phillip in place of Brandon King and Johann Layne. Roston Chase and his side had suffered a heavy defeat in the first Test in Ahmedabad, losing by an innings and 140 runs. A win in Delhi would mark their first Test victory over India since 2002.
By the time of lunch, India were 193/1 after 49 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal unbeaten on 98 off 143 balls and Sai Sudharsan on 57 from 97 deliveries.
