Anil Kumble heaped massive praise on Team India’s Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for scoring an unbeaten 173 on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday. The former captain urged the young southpaw to go for a triple hundred on Saturday.

“Jaiswal is getting better in every match, and he has a hunger for big scores. He was looking good in the previous game before his dismissal,” Anil Kumble said on JioHotstar.

The 23-year-old has amassed almost 2500 runs in 26 Tests, laced with seven centuries and 12 half-centuries. He faced 253 balls and hit 22 fours as India posted 318/2 at stumps.

Kumble highlighted Jaiswal’s ability to convert starts into daddy hundreds. “He doesn’t waste opportunities. Once he gets a start, he makes it count,” he added.

Five of his seven tons have been over the 150-run mark. With the West Indies bowlers looking tired, Kumble feels Jaiswal has a chance to score big runs. “He is out there and can score big runs on Day 2. He has a great opportunity not just for a double hundred, but for he may even score a triple hundred,” Kumble mentioned.

Virender Sehwag and Karun Nair are the only two batters who have smashed triple hundreds in the longest format of the game.
