In-form James Vince nails the slog sweep

James Vince, the leading run-scorer in the T20 Blast, extended his rich vein of form with an unbeaten 71 off 39 balls against Sussex. He is now level with Derbyshire’s Wayne Madsen in the 2023 Blast run-scoring chart with 351 runs under his belt.

Vince now has 20,000 runs for Hampshire across all formats. Samit Patel and Madsen are the only other current cricketers to have achieved the feat in county cricket.

Sussex’s 144 was inadequate as the defending champions pranced to victory with 31 balls to spare – their maiden 10-wicket victory in the tournament. Vince stole the show with his sublime strokeplay and Sussex looked devoid of ideas against the in-form batter.

Hampshire go third on the table with the emphatic win, but Sussex are second bottom and have lost their last two matches in disheartening fashion at the start of a period of six games in eight days.
