Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is going to make yet another Indian Premier League record as the host venue for the IPL 2026 final. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a shift in venue for the final from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad thus the stadium hosting the final for the 4th time making it the stadium with the most IPL finals at the largest stadium in the world.

There have been various stadiums that hosted the finals of IPL since its inception in India and outside India. Each venue including the Chennai Chepauk or even Dubai in the time of pandemic has been special for different reasons.

Ahmedabad Moves to the Top

Narendra Modi Stadium has hosted the final clashes for IPL in 2022, 2023 and 2025 and is scheduled to host the 2026 IPL finale. With it Narendra Modi Stadium has become the stadium with the most number of IPL finals played till date.

The colossal stadium has been the witness of many historical title deciders in the past few years and it has undoubtedly become one of the premier centers of attraction for the major cricket events in India.

Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium is in close pursuit to Ahmedabad as it has hosted three IPL finals in 2011, 2012 and 2024. Chennai Super Kings lifted their title in 2011 at their home ground as they defeated the same opponent that has defeated them in two finals so far Kolkata Knight Riders. While the former lifted their title against Chennai in the other two finals of 2012 and 2024.

Two stadiums have been the witness to 2 IPL finals each. The first is Eden Gardens in Kolkata which witnessed Mumbai Indians defeat Chennai Super Kings in two finals held in 2013 and 2015. The other is M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru where the same thing occurred. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab in 2014, while Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2016. It was Bengaluru which was supposed to host the final of IPL 2026 before the change to Ahmedabad was made.

From Mumbai to Dubai, IPL Finals across cities

The first ever final of the Indian Premier League was hosted at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai in 2008. Rajasthan Royals defeated the Chennai Super Kings to claim the IPL trophy. DY Patil Stadium also hosted the 2010 final where CSK lifted their maiden IPL trophy after defeating Mumbai Indians.

Two finals were also hosted at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Mumbai Indians were crowned champions at both instances in 2017 and 2019.

During the pandemic Dubai International Stadium played host to two IPL finals consecutively in 2020 and 2021 where Mumbai Indians were declared the winner of the final in 2020 and Chennai Super Kings won in 2021.

Only two stadiums have hosted the final for one occasion each the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was the host of the 2018 IPL final where Chennai Super Kings returned to the competition after its ban and defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad to lift their third title. In the 2009 edition when the IPL traveled to South Africa The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg was the host of the final where Deccan Chargers defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

With the Narendra Modi Stadium making it to yet another finale, it certainly has booked its place as one of the elite venues in IPL history.
