Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who sustained a back injury in January during the fifth and final test against Australia in Sydney of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has been declared fit by the BCCI center of excellence medical team.
Although Bumrah sustained a back injury, he was named the player of the series and picked up 32 wickets in the series against Australia. Bumrah underwent rehabilitation at the BCCI’s center of excellence in Bengaluru, and he made major progress where he slowly increased his bowling workload.
Mumbai India’s head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, shared that Bumrah will participate in the upcoming IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
“He's available; he's training today and should be available for the RCB game. He arrived last night, he had his sessions with NCA, and he's been handed over to our physios. He's bowling today in the practice session, so all good," said Jayawardene in the pre-match press conference.
This is not the first time Jasprit Bumrah has dealt with back issues; he was out of cricket for a couple of months, from September 2023 to August 2023, because he underwent back surgery. His back injury has made him miss several matches, which include the India home series against England, the Champions Trophy series in Dubai in February–March, and the IPL 2023 season.
On the IPL 2025 standing table, Mumbai India is currently in the eighth position with two points, and they have only won one match, which was against KKR, out of the four matches. Bumrah, who was retained by MI for Rs 18 crore, is expected to boost Mumbai India. He started playing for MI in 2013, and he has amassed a total of 165 wickets in 133 matches.
