Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which began on Friday, will witness a huge clash at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on Sunday evening. The match in question is the massive India vs Pakistan clash that is expected to witness a sell-out crowd. Both sides have met each other eight times in this tournament, with India winning six.
Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues revealed the massive expectations placed on the side whenever they play their neighbours. IANS quoted the 25-year-old in her chat with JioHotStar as saying, “Remember playing my first IND vs PAK game, where Harmanpreet said that there will be huge pressure from outside because of our history against Pakistan. All of us know what the fans expect.”
The right-handed batter also added, “Even the watchman in my building reminds me not to lose against Pakistan. Such is the pressure because people love the sport and the rivalry in general.”
During the recent captain’s conclave, Harmanpreet Kaur had said that the team will want to play fearless cricket during the massive clash on Sunday. The last time these two sides met was during the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup game in Sri Lanka. It was the Indian team that came out on top by 88 runs.
If there is one title that the Indian women don’t have in their cabinet, it is the 20-over format. Harmanpreet’s side has already won the fifty-over World Cup that was held in India last year. Final appearance in the 2020 campaign was the closest the Indian women have come to the T20 World title.
Rodrigues, during her chat with JioStar, was quoted by IANS, “This morning, the entire team visualized us lifting the trophy. That’s been the theme of this side, we did it in 2025 (ODI WC), and coach Amol Mazumdar has made it a point to do it here as well.”
Delhi Capitals star has played 126 games for the national side and scored 2732 runs. She has also hit 16 fifties with a best of 78 and averages 30 with the bat and has a strike-rate of 118.
