England has secured a spot in the Super 8 round of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, yet their path to this point has been difficult. The team has achieved victory in matches under Harry Brook's leadership while their total match time in the tournament stops at incomplete games.
Opener Jos Buttler has shown poor performance which remains the primary issue for England to resolve. He has played four matches yet his total score stands at 26 runs with 21 runs and 3 runs and 3 runs. These scores fall short of what observers expect from a player who possesses his level of experience and skill.
Buttler described his personal challenges along with the status of England's campaign by speaking on the Stuart Broad-hosted ‘For the Love of Cricket’ podcast. He expressed disappointment about his ability to start scoring runs yet he failed to produce major scores.
Buttler said:
“First two games, getting starts and not managing to go on to make those telling contributions is frustrating. And then a couple of low scores against Scotland and Italy.”
He tells the audience about his understanding of the problem while he wants to develop his skills during the rest of the tournament.

Buttler serves as an essential player for the England cricket team. England will develop into a better team when he regains his normal T20I strike rate of 148. He obtained strong beginnings against Nepal and West Indies without being able to build on those performances.
Buttler scored 17, 39 and 25 runs during the T20 series against Sri Lanka before the World Cup. The numbers show that he manages to reach the position but struggles to maintain his presence at the pitch.
He acknowledged that his self-imposed pressure might be excessive for him to manage.
Buttler added:
“I found myself getting out in the 10s and 20s quite a bit – getting starts and finding ways to get out. Maybe trying just a bit too hard instead of being relaxed at the crease.”
Captain Harry Brook needs to share his complete strategy with England because his current field decisions have created doubts among the players. England can progress to the semi-finals when both Buttler and other experienced players find their respective playing conditions.
England wants their opening batsman to restore his peak performance which will enable him to lead her team toward victory in the upcoming Super 8 stage.
