Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth has called Sanju Samson the “unluckiest player” in the team. Srikkanth, known for his frank opinions, criticised the changes in Samson’s batting slot, suggesting that it has affected his consistency.
Despite being in fine form, Samson has been told to bat in different positions. He had settled as an opener with Abhishek Sharma. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth voiced concern over the reshuffling, which he feels has impacted one of India’s most explosive batters.
“The unluckiest guy is Sanju Samson. He was scoring centuries as an opener, but now they’ve moved him all over, from 3 to 8,” Srikkanth said.
“If given the chance, they might send him in at No. 11 too. A player like Sanju must feel frustrated, especially after performing so well at the top. But he has no choice but to stay silent and bat wherever the team needs him,” he added.
Despite the ongoing changes to his batting position, Srikkanth noted that there is still a positive for Samson in this situation.
“The only positive is that he performed well at No. 5 in the Asia Cup, which is a good sign for him. Now, Sanju is the automatic choice as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the T20 World Cup and will likely continue at No. 5,” he concluded.
