In 2025, the former England pacer James Anderson joined the elite list of cricketers to have received a knighthood for their contribution to the gentlemen's sport. For the first time in five years, a cricketer was honored with a knighthood. Over the last decade or so, some English cricketers and West Indian legends have been honored with the title.
Sir Curtly Ambrose was knighted on the 28th of February 2014 by the Antiguian government for his services to cricket. The West Indian bowler played 98 Tests and claimed 405 wickets, at an average of 20.99. In ODIs, he took 225 wickets in 176 matches at an average of 24.13.
Much like Curtly Ambrose, Sir Andy Roberts was knighted on February 28, 2014, by the Antiguian government for his services to cricket. The West Indian bowler played 47 Tests and claimed 202 wickets, at an average of 25.61. In ODIs, he took 87 wickets in 56 matches at an average of 20.36.
Like Ambrose and Roberts, Sir Richie Richardson was knighted on the 28th of February 2014 by the Antiguian government for his services to cricket. The West Indian batter played 86 Tests and scored 5949 runs, at an average of 44.40. In ODIs, he scored 6248 runs in 224 matches at an average of 33.41.
Sir Charlie Griffith was deemed a Knight of St. Andrew of the Order of Barbados for services to cricket in 2017. The West Indian bowler played 28 Tests and claimed 94 wickets, at an average of 28.54.
Sir Alastair Cook was knighted in 2019 for his services to cricket. The English batter played 161 Tests and scored 12472 runs, at an average of 45.35. In ODIs, he scored 3204 runs in 92 matches at an average of 36.41.
Much like Cook, Sir Geoffrey Boycott was knighted in 2019 for his services to cricket. The English opener played 108 Tests and scored 8114 runs, at an average of 47.73. In ODIs, he scored 1082 runs in 34 matches at an average of 36.07.
Like Boycott and Cook, Sir Andrew Strauss was knighted in 2019 for his services to cricket. The former English skipper played 100 Tests and scored 7037 runs, at an average of 40.91. In ODIs, he scored 4205 runs in 125 matches at an average of 35.64.
Sir Clive Lloyd was in the 2020 New Year's Honors List for his services to cricket. The legendary captain played 110 Tests and scored 7515 runs, at an average of 46.68. In ODIs, he scored 1977 runs in 87 matches at an average of 39.54.
Like Lloyd, Sir Godon Greenidge was in the 2020 New Year's Honors List for his services to cricket and the development of the sport. The former opener played 108 Tests and scored 7558 runs, at an average of 44.72. In ODIs, he scored 5134 runs in 128 matches at an average of 45.04.
Sir James Anderson was knighted in 2025 for his services to cricket. The English pacer played 188 Tests and claimed 704 wickets, at an average of 26.46. In ODIs, he took 269 wickets in 194 matches at an average of 29.22.
