On Monday, Marco Jansen from South Africa created a unique record during the first Test of the series against India in Guwahati. The 25-year-old all-rounder is the first South African in history to score a half-century and take a six-wicket haul in the same Test match against India. His brilliant show helped South Africa stay in control of the match.
Jansen had already impressed on Sunday by scoring 93 runs from just 91 balls in South Africa's first innings. On Monday, he showed his class with the ball as well, finishing with 6 wickets for 48 runs in 19.5 overs, now among the best bowling figures by a South African pacer in India.
Jansen started his spell by removing wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel in the morning. After tea, he produced an even better spell as he dismissed Rishabh Pant (7), Nitish Kumar Reddy (10), and Ravindra Jadeja (6) to break India’s middle order.
He wrapped up his five-for by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav, caught by Aiden Markram, for 19. His sixth wicket was that of Jasprit Bumrah, edging one behind to Kyle Verreynne. Jansen was in control throughout the innings and used his height nicely to unsettle the Indian batters.
