Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis cracked 48 runs off 32 balls in the BBL 2023-24 match between Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes. Recently, he did not find a mention in the ODI team selected for Australia’s tour of the West Indies.

Stoinis admitted that his omission from the squad made ‘complete sense’ after his subpar performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Stoinis’ couldn’t contribute a great deal to Australia’s title-winning campaign, scoring 87 runs and picking only four wickets in six games. Aaron Hardie and Matt Short were included in the 13-man ODI squad ahead of him.

Stoinis added that he has been in regular touch with Australia head coach Andrew McDonald over the past few months. He is eyeing a spot in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, having confidence in his ability in the shortest format of the game.

AUS ODI squad versus WI: Steve Smith (c), Travis Head (vc), Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Lance Morris, Jhye Richardson, Matt Short, Adam Zampa.
