Mohammed Siraj broke through for India by exploiting the new ball towards the end of Day 1 of the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati on Saturday, November 22. The pacer dismissed Tony de Zorzi for 28 off 59 deliveries, leaving the Proteas at 246/6. The wicket came in the 82nd over of South Africa’s first innings. Siraj bowled a length delivery just outside off-stump that seamed away off the pitch.
De Zorzi appeared uncertain and poked at it at the last moment, allowing India’s stand-in captain Rishabh Pant to dive to his left and take a clean catch. This dismissal also ended a 45-run stand between de Zorzi and Senuran Muthuswamy, which had lasted 83 balls. You can watch the video here:

Mohammed Siraj claimed a key wicket to give India some respite, but South Africa largely dominated with the bat on Day 1. Openers Aiden Markram (38) and Ryan Rickelton (35) laid a solid foundation before Jasprit Bumrah broke their 82-run partnership just before the tea break. Kuldeep Yadav then removed Rickelton at the start of the second session.
Tristan Stubbs (49) and captain Temba Bavuma (41) forged the highest partnership of the series so far, adding 84 runs for the third wicket. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Bavuma, with Yashasvi Jaiswal taking a tidy catch, and Kuldeep Yadav struck twice more to remove Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder (13) within six overs.
Mohammed Siraj wrapped up the day on a positive note for India before bad light halted play. South Africa currently lead the two-match series 1-0 after their 30-run victory in the first Test in Kolkata, marking their first Test win in India since 2010.
The Proteas now aim to make history with a 2-0 series sweep, while India will seek to bounce back and level the series 1-1, avoiding another home defeat under Gautam Gambhir’s coaching after the recent 0-3 loss to New Zealand.
