The business of T20 cricket has experienced rapid changes during the past few years. Franchise owners used to concentrate their efforts on one particular league. Indian Premier League (IPL) owners now expand their business operations into multiple international markets.

IPL franchises currently maintain team partnerships with many leading T20 leagues. The increasing power of this force has created a significant discussion within the cricket community.

Several IPL owners already run teams in leagues such as SA20 in South Africa and ILT20 in the UAE and Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The franchises show commonality through their use of identical names and branding. The Mumbai Indians' parent company Reliance Industries together with Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants associations have established international operations.

PSL franchise owner Fawad Sarwar issued a powerful statement which started new disputes.

Sarwar, a US-based Pakistani entrepreneur and head of Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, claimed that Indian owners are building a monopoly in global T20 cricket. Existing IPL-related groups enable current league operators to prohibit new investors from entering multiple leagues according to him.

The ownership rights for the Jamaica-based franchise in Caribbean Premier League were acquired by Kingsmen Sports Enterprise according to recent information. The CPL will see a Jamaica-based team return to competition after 2023.

The company operates two franchises which include the Hyderabad Kingsmen in Pakistan Super League and the Chicago Kingsmen in United States Minor League Cricket.

The Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise was bought during a historic PSL auction held at the Jinnah Convention Centre on January 8. The Kingsmen acquired the franchise rights through their winning bid which amounted to Rs 1.75 billion or approximately $6.2 million.

Sarwar claims that the present worldwide T20 format advantages Indian investors. He expressed his disapproval of the system during a YouTube interview on the Relukattay channel.

Fawad Sarwar commented: "Indian owners are sitting there & they don’t let anyone enter. Realistically, when The Hundred expands, we’ll be there. If the BBL gets privatized, we’ll be there as well. In the other leagues, there’s no hope. There’s a whole gang operating there. It’s all a ‘family, family’ thing going on. CPL did prefer us, no administrator wants one-way traffic or a dictatorship to continue."

The IPL-related ownership of various leagues has reached a noteworthy increase because his remarks appeared during this period. Three of the six Caribbean Premier League teams have ties to IPL franchise owners.

All eight franchises in The Hundred sold ownership stakes during the previous year. Four of those teams now have financial backing from companies that have connections to IPL franchises while the other teams receive funding from American investors.

Kavya Maran has achieved major success as a cricket team owner because she has become one of the most well-known figures in the sport. She holds the position of CEO and co-owner at Sun Group's cricket ventures which allows her to oversee Sunrisers Hyderabad for the Indian Premier League and Sunrisers Eastern Cape for SA20 and Sunrisers Leeds for The Hundred.

Reliance Industries, which Mukesh Ambani controls, has developed into one of the largest cricket broadcaster networks worldwide. The ownership group of Mumbai Indians now possesses control over six teams that compete in T20 leagues around the world. The increasing control of Indian entrepreneurs over franchise cricket operations has become an obvious trend.
