Michael Jones smashed a fine 71 to hand Scotland a flying start, but Nepal struck back through a three-wicket burst from Sompal Kami to hold them to 170/7 in 20 overs in Match 33 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Jones cracked eight fours and two sixes in his 45-ball innings, stitching together key stands, 80 for the first wicket with George Munsey and 52 for the second with Brandon McMullen, as Scotland looked set to push beyond 180 after choosing to bat first.

However, Sompal Kami triggered a superb turnaround with two wickets in the 16th over, sparking a late collapse. Nepal, who had earlier stunned England in the tournament, tightened their grip in the final five overs and positioned themselves strongly for a maiden win in this edition.

Jones and Munsey laid the platform with an 80-run opening stand. After a cautious start, Jones accelerated in the third over with a four and six off Dipendra Singh Airee. He followed it up with successive boundaries off Nandan Yadav and added two more fours against Kami in the fifth over.

Nepal Restrict Scotland After Jones’ 71

Scotland raced to 52 without loss in the Power-play. With the pacers struggling for control, Nepal captain Rohit Paudel brought himself on and removed Munsey, who miscued a reverse sweep to Sundeep Jora. Jones soon completed his fifty off 31 balls and, along with McMullen, added another 52 runs, taking on Lamichhane and Kushal Bhurtel.

Just as Scotland seemed poised for a huge total, Kami dismissed Jones with a slower delivery and then produced a stunning return catch to remove McMullen (25). Scotland then lost Richie Berrington (10), Tom Bruce (5) and Matthew Cross (4) quickly, slipping to 156/6 in the 19th over.

Mark Watt struck 10 off four balls, including a final-ball six, to push Scotland to a competitive total. Kami finished with 3/25, while Yadav claimed 2/34 late in the innings.
