Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli’s bond has always led to speculations. The two were involved in a few verbal slugfests during the Indian Premier League, and when Gambhir became the head of the Indian team, a lot was written and said about their chemistry. The situation became tensed after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Kohli announced retirement from Test cricket.

They have ignored each other in the last few months. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has finally given a statement, saying the two maintain a cordial relationship and there is no fighting between the two greats of the game.

“I have never seen them fighting and they share a cordial relationship,” Saikia said on the India Today Podcast.

The anchor reminded the official of the Indian Cricket Board of the fight between Kohli and Gambhir in IPL 2023. “I haven’t seen it. I didn’t watch that match as it is not possible to watch every game,” he added.

When asked whether Gautam wants Virat out of the national team, Saikia gave a firm reply. “Kohli is always in the team and Gambhir is also there. This is only a perception,” he mentioned.

The BCCI secretary refuted the claim that Kohli was forced to retire from Test cricket.

“Nobody can force Virat Kohli to retire. It was his decision. He is not an ordinary player. He is the legend of the game. The board never interfere in a player’s career.”

There were reports of Virat and Rohit Sharma hanging up their boots from the ODIs after the Australia series last year. However, they contributed consistently to silence critics.

“A lot of rubbish is written. We cannot comment on rubbish. These things were never discussed,” he concluded.
