Sydney Thunder underwent a period of consolidation after losing three wickets inside the PowerPlay, leading to a delayed push for fireworks at the death. In spite of captain Chris Green’s earnest efforts (33* off 17), they could only manage 150 against Hobart Hurricanes at the Bellerive Oval. Chris Jordan and Nikhil Chaudhary returned two wickets each in their parsimonious spells.
In stark contrast, the Hurricanes enjoyed a wicketless PowerPlay. Both openers did fall in quick succession but there was no dip in tempo as far as the chase was concerned with Macalister Wright (34 off 25) adding 85 with Ben McDermott in quick time. The latter remained unbeaten to polish off the manageable chase alongside Corey Anderson, who cracked a four and a six to expedite the finish.
Brief scores: Sydney Thunder 150/8 in 20 overs (Chris Green 33*; Chris Jordan 2-20, Nikhil Chaudhary 2-26) lost to Hobart Hurricanes 151/3 in 18.1 overs (Ben McDermott 53*, Macalister Wright 34; Tanveer Sangha 1-22) by 7 wickets in Hobart
