The Pakistan women’s cricket camp has finally spoken out about the heated controversy surrounding Muneeba Ali’s run-out in the high-stakes World Cup clash against India. The incident, which occurred early in Pakistan’s innings, sparked strong reactions from players, officials, and fans.

While the dismissal triggered intense debate, the team has now chosen to move on from the episode. Fast bowler Diana Baig addressed the media and made it clear that they did not wish to prolong the discussion.

“We don’t want to talk about it now. It’s in the past. We are focusing on our next matches,” she said, signalling Pakistan’s intention to shift attention back to their campaign.

The Incident and Heated Reactions

The controversial moment came on the final ball of the fourth over when Muneeba Ali was declared run-out after a third-umpire review. Replays suggested that Ali had grounded her bat inside the crease but lifted it slightly just before the bails were dislodged — a detail that divided opinions.

Pakistan’s captain, Fatima Sana, was seen arguing with the fourth umpire, while the coaching staff on the sidelines were visibly displeased. Despite the heated reactions, the Indian players remained composed on the field.

Former Australia cricketer and commentator Mel Jones explained the ruling, citing Law 30.1.2 of the MCC Laws of Cricket. “If there is a subsequent loss of contact between the ground and any part of the person or bat after grounding, the batter can still be given out,” Jones clarified. This technicality led to the dismissal being upheld by the third umpire, even though many viewers felt it was harsh.

Outcome and Moving Forward

Despite the controversy, India continued their dominance, ultimately defeating Pakistan by 88 runs and extending their unbeaten streak in women’s ODIs against their rivals to 12 matches. For Pakistan, the focus has now shifted to learning from the incident rather than dwelling on it.

Diana Baig reiterated this stance during her interaction with reporters, saying, “The decision was made, and we respect it. We want to concentrate on what lies ahead.”

While the debate around Muneeba’s dismissal may continue among fans and analysts, the Pakistan camp’s response indicates a desire to put the controversy behind them. Their approach reflects a broader objective — to regroup, refocus, and make a stronger comeback in the remaining matches of the tournament.
