With early wickets lost, India needed a partnership to put up a strong total. Ruturaj along with skipper Suryakumar Yadav added 57 off 47 balls. The latter was the aggressor-in-chief as he took the bowling on from the word go, even as Ruturaj dropped anchor with the agenda to bat through the innings. Slowly but steadily the pair managed to infuse impetus into the Indian innings as the pitch eased out into a batting beauty after the initial movement faded away. After Suryakumar’s dismissal, the 26-year-old Gaikwad took centerstage and went into overdrive to take India to 222.
It was, yet, not enough to contain Australia as Glenn Maxwell’s blitzkrieg downed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s maiden T20I ton. Thanks to the win, Australia kept the series alive at 2-1 with two games to go. Maxwell hit the joint-fastest (47 balls) ton in the shortest format by an Australian batter as Matthew Wade played the ideal foil, with the duo having joined hands when the equation read a steep 89 off 39 balls.
