England continued to chip away in the second session of their third Ashes Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

Wickets bookended the session as the hosts progressed from 94 – 2 at lunch to 194 – 5 at tea, in a session which England shaded.

The tourists made the dream start after lunch, with Jofra Archer claiming two wickets from the first three balls of the session.

Marnus Labuschagne inexplicably pulled the session’s first delivery to Brydon Carse at mid-wicket, before Cameron Green chipped his second delivery to the diving Carse.

Usman Khawaja (82) and Alex Carey (48*) rebuilt for Australia, after a shell-shocking start to the afternoon, sharing a 91 run partnership to negotiate them back into a decent position.

However, in a move somewhat akin to one that England might pull off, Australia let England back in, with Khawaja slog sweeping to the tumbling Josh Tongue on the boundary, after he had battled for his half-century.

With a nervy looking Josh Inglis (5*) and the tail to come, England will surely still be harbouring ambitions of dismissing Australia either before the close of play this evening or early tomorrow.

There was a sting in the tail last time around though, with Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland proving particularly difficult to dislodge, so the English bowlers will know that they will need to stay switched on, before they can put their feet up and heads down.
