The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match no.33, will showcase the two most successful teams in the tournament's history through an exciting matchup. The Mumbai Indians (MI) will face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). MI released a significant announcement about their previous captain Rohit Sharma's injury status before the upcoming cricket 'El Clasico' match.
Rohit sustained a hamstring injury during the match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The former India captain retired hurt during the game and did not return to bat. He missed the previous two games which the five-time champions played because MI selected Danish Malewar to compete against the Gujarat Titans.
The MI spokesperson provided his latest report about Rohit's physical condition assessment before the high-voltage clash. The player practiced in the nets with his injured leg strapped three days ago. The player appeared relaxed while he played with his children before the Mumbai training session.
MI spokesperson commented: "Rohit Sharma is still being assessed. A decision on him playing or not would be taken at 7 pm tomorrow at the toss."
Rohit remains the third-highest run-scorer for MI despite playing only four matches this season. He aims to return in the next game and deliver a strong performance against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium.

Tilak Varma during the pre-match press conference added: "Rohit bhai told me: 'tu 15 balls khel le, uske baad humein pata hai tu kya Kar sakta hai (play 15 balls, we know what u can do after that!). I always love to bat No. 3. But I'm ready to bat in any position for the team."
The Mumbai Indians team currently occupies the sixth position in the points table. Their 99-run victory against the Gujarat Titans increased their net run rate to positive values. The team from MI needs to improve their middle order batting because Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya have not yet produced significant batting results.
Mumbai seeks to maintain their winning streak against their traditional enemy CSK. The team needs to win this match because a loss would severely damage their playoff prospects and Pandya would experience intense pressure because another failure would result in his second consecutive missed qualification with the team.
