Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi was named the Player of the Match for scoring 19 runs and taking three wickets in the team’s 11-run win over Bangladesh in the Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2025. Pakistan booked their place in the final of the tournament and will meet India for the first time in the mega clash of the Continental Cup in 41 years.

Bangladesh were the firm favourites when they restricted the Men in Green to 135, but the Tigers were let down by the batters, who crumbled under pressure and managed to reach 124/9 in the 20 overs. Shaheen dedicated the award to his wife and son, who were present in the stands to cheer for the speedster. Afridi took two wickets in the powerplay overs, which broke Bangladesh’s back, and they couldn’t recover from the setback.

“I want to dedicate the Player of the Match award to my beautiful wife and son. We needed breakthroughs, and I went for it. When you post a small total, taking early wickets is the key, and we planned about it during the innings break,” Shaheen Afridi said.

He also opened up on his slower ball that got him the wicket of Shamim Hossain, who was looking dangerous in the middle.

“I have been working on this delivery, and it is good that I was able to execute it in the match,” he added.

Afridi also mentioned his batting and the upcoming final against India on September 28. “I just try to take on bowlers and am really pleased that I was able to hit two sixes. We are ready for the final against India,” he concluded.
