Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has scored the fastest double hundred by a batter in his country’s first-class cricket in 177 deliveries, breaking legendary batter Inzamam Ul Haq’s three-decade old milestone. Masood achieved the landmark while representing Sui Northern Gas against Sahar Associates on the opening day of the President’s Cup departmental tournament. Inzamam had accumulated a double hundred in 188 deliveries in a practice match in England in 1992. Masood was unbeaten on 212 runs from 185 balls at stumps on day one of the contest.
The record for the fastest double hundred by a visiting batter is held by former India batter Virender Sehwag, who completed his double ton in 182 balls in the Lahore Test against Pakistan in 2006.
The 36-year-old Shan Masood refused to become a Director of International Cricket and Players Relations to prepare for the upcoming matches in the World Test Championship. He showed no interest after the Pakistan Cricket Board approached him as he is currently focusing on his career.
The officials of the board wanted him to cut short his career to accept the new role after the veteran was appointed consultant of international cricket and players relations.
