Shubman Gill became the second fastest to 3,000 ODI runs. He is also the fastest Indian men's cricketer to reach the mark in international cricket. The right-handed batter recorded the feat in the first ODI against Afghanistan. The skipper took 62 innings, with only Hashim Amla ahead of him as the legendary batter did it in 57 innings.
For the Men in Blue, Gill broke the record of Virat Kohli, who amassed 3000 ODI runs in his 75th innings against Sri Lanka in February 2012. Gill is the first Indian batter and the seventh overall in the world to reach the record in under 70 innings.

Gill was 47 runs short of the landmark before the series opener against Afghanistan. He led India's chase of 195 runs in 25 overs to perfection, hitting fours and sixes. Shubman showed his class and execution skills despite losing Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer on the other hand. He took 35 balls to reach 47 runs, hitting Mohammad Nabi for a six and a four. The maximum near the sight screen took him to a new record. His 18th ODI half-century came in 37 balls.
On the sixth delivery of the fifth over, Gill failed to hit a pull shot, and the wicket-keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz ran to complete the catch but fell short.
He can also become the third fastest run-getter to 3,000 runs as an opener. He has managed over 2700 runs in 62 innings, and scoring the remaining 250 runs in the next three innings would put him behind Amla (56), Sachin Tendulkar, and Rohit Sharma (64).
