Sourav Ganguly has begun his coaching career with great success. The former India captain currently leads Pretoria Capitals' SA20 campaign, and under his guidance, the Keshav Maharaj-led side has reached the tournament finals, scheduled for Sunday, January 25. The Pretoria Capitals reached the championship match after defeating Sunrisers Eastern Cape by seven wickets in Qualifier 1, which took place at Kingsmead in Durban on Wednesday. Dewald Brevis delivered with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 75 off 38 balls with four fours and seven sixs to send the Capitals into the final.

On Thursday, Ravichandran Ashwin who played for India in the past spoke highly of Ganguly's first coaching experience, which proves that Indians have the ability to become successful coaches. He also praised the former BCCI President while stating that the Prince of Kolkata is generating significant excitement throughout the Rainbow Nation.

The Pretoria Capitals organization appointed Ganguly to their head coaching position before the start of the fourth SA20 competition. Shaun Pollock also joined the support staff, serving as an assistant coach. The Capitals achieved second place in the points table during the fourth SA20 season after they won five matches and lost four matches to accumulate 24 points.

Ganguly expressed his desire to become Indian team head coach shortly before he accepted the role of head coach for Pretoria Capitals. During a conversation with news agency PTI, he said he would love to take the role if he got the chance.

Ganguly is widely recognized as one of India's greatest cricket captains because he played 113 Test matches and 311 One Day International matches while scoring more than 18000 runs throughout his career. He led India to reach the 2003 World Cup final. Under his captaincy India won the famous Natwest Trophy final in 2002 against England at Lord's.

Ganguly held the position of president for both the Cricket Association of Bengal and the BCCI. He began his term as BCCI president in 2019 and completed his presidency in 2022 when Roger Binny succeeded him.
