Sri Lanka have officially confirmed an away series against former T20 World Cup champions West Indies in a major announcement. The upcoming tour becomes even more special as it will take place after a long gap of five years.

Sri Lanka Cricket has faced several internal issues in recent months. The board maintains its international relationships with other cricket nations despite facing internal problems. The first complete bilateral series between Sri Lanka and West Indies will take place in the Caribbean during June and July 2026.

The series will include two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is, bringing back an exciting battle in both red-ball and white-ball cricket.

The tour will begin with its first ODI match which will take place on June 3 and the two following matches will take place on June 6 and June 8 at Sabina Park in Kingston. The T20I series will take place on June 11, 13, and 14 before the team shifts to playing longer format matches.

The first Test will begin on June 25, while the second starts on July 3, with both matches taking place at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Sri Lanka tour of West Indies, 2026 Schedule:

Date Match Venue
June 3 First ODI Sabina Park
June 6 Second ODI Sabina Park
June 8 Third ODI Sabina Park
June 11 First T20I Sabina Park
June 13 Second T20I Sabina Park
June 14 Third T20I Sabina Park
June 18-21 Four-Day game CCG Antigua
June 25-29 First Test SVRS Antigua
July 3-7 Second Test SVRS Antigua

The tour gains additional value because Sri Lanka last played West Indies in 2021, when both teams finished their two-match Test series without a result, yet the visitors lost all three ODI matches.

The West Indies visited Sri Lanka for a Test series during the same year, which the home team won with an impressive result. The two teams faced each other again in Sri Lanka during the 2024 three-match ODI series, which the home team won by a score of 2-1.

The upcoming tour enables both teams to face each other again, which will help them improve their international cricket performance. Sri Lanka last competed in the T20 World Cup 2026, where they ended their Super 8 stage matches in Group 2 without winning any games.

Sri Lanka cricket has experienced rough times since that moment. The government dismissed the board because of corruption allegations against its members. The new administration established mandatory fitness requirements which all players must follow.

The West Indies participated in the T20 World Cup 2026 but their previous championship status did not help them achieve better results. The team advanced to Super 8 but they finished third in Group 1 after losing to India and South Africa.

West Indies cricket has experienced multiple successes and failures throughout the previous years. The Test team faces major challenges but the T20I team maintains its competitive edge. The upcoming series will determine their future development.
