Ahead of the first T20I of the 5-match series against Australia in Canberra, Suryakumar Yadav attended the press conference, where he addressed his poor form. The Indian T20I skipper claimed that he has been working hard and has had a couple of good sessions at home and in Australia.

While he understood the need for runs, Yadav felt that working hard towards the team goal was more important. "I feel like I've been working really hard. It's not that I wasn't working hard before; I was working hard then as well," said Suryakumar in the pre-match conference.

"I've had good sessions back home and a few good sessions here, so I am in a good space, which is really important. Runs will come eventually, but working hard towards the team goal is important," the Indian T20I skipper added in his statement. The star player was then asked to give an update on the severity of Shreyas Iyer's injury.

"Iyer will be monitored for the next few days," - Suryakumar Yadav

Yadav claimed that the Indian ODI vice-captain was recovering well and added that he replied to him on the phone, indicating it was a sign of doing well. He felt what happened with Iyer was unfortunate and added that the doctors were taking good care of him. Yadav said that Iyer's situation will be monitored in the upcoming days.

"He's recovering well, replying to us on the phone, which means he is doing absolutely fine. It is unfortunate what happened, but the doctors are taking care of him. He'll be monitored for the next few days, but nothing to be worried about," Suryakumar added.
