Skipper Suryakumar Yadav guided India to victory in a nail-biting Super Over clash against Sri Lanka during their Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 encounter on Friday, September 26. Both sides showcased strong batting displays, with India setting a total of 202/5 after batting first. Sri Lanka matched the score, also finishing on 202/5.
Needing three runs off the final delivery, Sri Lanka managed only two, pushing the match into a Super Over. Arshdeep Singh was handed the responsibility for India and rose to the occasion brilliantly. He conceded just two runs in five balls and claimed two wickets, ending Sri Lanka’s innings and securing the win for the Men in Blue.
Chasing three runs for victory, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill came out to bat for India in the Super Over. Facing Wanindu Hasaranga’s first delivery, the Indian captain coolly struck the winning runs. Hasaranga bowled a googly on middle and off, which Suryakumar guided through the covers off the back foot.
Though the shot didn’t reach the boundary, the pair comfortably ran three runs to seal the match. You can watch the video here:

Sri Lanka could have gone for the third run on the final ball of the second innings.
India, on a poor day with the ball, have sneaked away with a victory.

India won the match but Sri Lanka'n opener Pathum Nissanka won hearts as he played a brilliant innings.
Rinku Singh should be given a place in the final instead of Axar Patel.

Although India have been the most dominant side in the Asia Cup 2025 and are clear favorites to lift the trophy, skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s recent form remains a minor concern ahead of the final. The right-handed batter has struggled for consistency throughout the tournament, amassing just 71 runs in five innings at an average of 23.66 and a strike rate of 107.57.
The 35-year-old had only one noteworthy innings, an unbeaten 47 against Pakistan in the group stage. In the clash against Sri Lanka, he again found it difficult to get going, scoring just 12 runs off 13 balls. With the final against Pakistan scheduled for Sunday, September 28, India will be hoping their skipper can overcome his patchy form and deliver a crucial performance with the bat.
