Team India’s new ODI captain, Shubman Gill, has said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are in the mix for the 2027 ODI World Cup. He cleared the air on the future of the two legendary cricketers, who have been recalled to the side for the three-match series against Australia.
The BCCI sacked Rohit and replaced him with Shubman. The change in leadership started speculation about the future of Kohli and Sharma in the fifty-over format.
“The experience and skill that Rohit and Virat have are possessed by only a few players. They have won many matches for the country,” Shubman Gill said.
“They are in the mix for the 2027 ODI World Cup,” he added.
The selection panel decided to remove Rohit, considering the next edition of the global tournament. Rohit was successful as a skipper, leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024 and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the BCCI agreed to give time to Gill to prepare India’s strategy.
Gill also shed light on his learning from Rohit. “I have learned a lot from Sharma. The calmness and his bond with the players are something I want to inherit,” he mentioned.
