India's talismanic speedster Jasprit Bumrah is one of the fiercest bowlers to have played the game of cricket. He is one of the rare breed of pacers who could win games by himself. Be it the new ball or the old ball, Bumrah always seems to have that special delivery up his sleeve.
He has played 48 Tests, 89 ODIs, and 71 T20Is since making his debut in 2016. He has picked up 219, 149, and 90 wickets across the three formats, respectively. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the right-arm pacer has picked up 183 wickets at an average of 22.03.
Batters have to bring out special shots to get the better of Bumrah. On this note, let's look at the five best shots hit off the bowling of the senior statesman.
KL Rahul hit a glorious six against Bumrah in match No. 34 of IPL 2018. Playing for Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings), Rahul hit a lofted cover drive against the ace pacer. The ball sailed over the fence for a maximum. Rahul played with a straight bat and held the pose for the photographers.
This six has managed to stand the test of time. The Karnataka cricketer is one of the most stylish batters in modern-day cricket. A shot like the lofted cover drive looks even more special when he hits it.
Andre Russell has been one of the most destructive batters in IPL history. He has wowed the cricket fraternity with his powerful batting over the years. One of his best sixes came against Bumrah in IPL 2019 in match No. 47 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
In the 19th over, Russell slammed a flat-batted six over extra cover. Bumrah bowled a length ball outside off. Russell got his front leg in the air and walloped it for a maximum. Sanjay Manjrekar, on commentary, called it one of the best shots of the season.
Virat Kohli hit a fierce upper cut against Bumrah in a tour game between India and Leicestershire in 2022. The latter was unofficially playing for the England County. Bumrah bowled a sharp short delivery around the off-stump.
However, the Delhi batter was up to the mark. He lofted the delivery over the gully region, sending it to the boundary. Playing such a shot in English conditions must not have been easy. However, Kohli maintained his balance and connected with the ball perfectly.
Shreyas Iyer hit a stunning boundary in an IPL 2025 clash between the Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. This was Qualifier 2, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Punjab was romping home towards a 204-run target on the back of a brilliant knock from their captain.
In the 18th over, Bumrah nailed a yorker on the off-stump. However, Shreyas got his bat down in time and opened his face accurately to deviate the ball behind the field. He managed to squeeze the ball away past the third man fielder for an incredible boundary.
Sam Konstas played a blinder of an innings in his debut Test against India in Melbourne in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He smashed 60 off just 65 balls, belting six fours and two sixes. His flamboyant knock took the Indian bowlers off-guard. In the following Test match in Sydney, he hit Jasprit Bumrah for a six over third man.
Bumrah bowled a full delivery, searing in towards the leg-stump. Konstas reverse ramped him for a boundary. Australia had lost two wickets inside the first 10 overs. However, the right-handed batter backed his instincts and mesmerized fans with his audacity.
