Australia’s stand-in captain Travis Head was dismissed in an unfortunate manner by Zimbabwe pacer Brad Evans during their T20 World Cup 2026 group stage match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The aggressive opener scored 17 runs off 15 balls before departing, leaving the Men in Yellow struggling at 29-4 in the fifth over while chasing a target of 170.

Head was leading the side for the second consecutive match after Mitchell Marsh missed the game due to a training injury ahead of Australia’s clash against Ireland. The left-handed batter found himself stranded as Josh Inglis fell in the second over, followed by ducks from Tim David and Cameron Green.

Zimbabwe, looking for further breakthroughs, relied on Brad Evans’ disciplined pace. On the third delivery of one over, Head attempted a trademark drive but only managed an inside edge, which struck his pads and shoes. The ball trickled onto the stumps before he could react, dislodging the bails.

Head was left frustrated as Zimbabwe players and fans celebrated the dismissal. You can watch the video here:

Travis Head’s form has collapsed significantly, scoring just 137 runs in his last 12 T20Is and crossing 30 only once. In Australia’s recent dominant win over Ireland, he was run out for six off seven balls.

After losing four wickets in the powerplay, Australia managed just 38 runs, causing the required run rate to climb sharply. With Marcus Stoinis already sidelined due to a hand injury sustained while attempting a return catch in the first innings, the team’s hopes now rest on Matt Renshaw and Glenn Maxwell.

At the time of reporting, the pair are trying to steady the innings, but remain far from the target. Australia sits at 51-4 after eight overs, with the required run rate approaching 10 runs per over.
