UAE and Oman are set to face each other at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Monday, 15 September. The United Arab Emirates had a tough start to the Asia Cup, losing to India by nine wickets in their opening encounter. Muhammad Waseem’s side struggled with the bat, managing only 57 runs in 13.1 overs.

Oman, captained by Jatinder Singh, also faced difficulties against Pakistan. After conceding 160 runs with the ball, their batting line-up collapsed for 67, leaving them 93 runs short. Both teams will need to address their weaknesses. While UAE have the edge due to home advantage and a slightly better squad, Oman’s spinners could turn the game if conditions favour them.

Here are the key battles to watch out for in the UAE vs Oman clash

Hammad Mirza vs Rahul Chopra
Oman’s Hammad Mirza managed 27 runs in his side’s previous game but the other batters struggled to make an impact. UAE wicket-keeper-batter Rahul Chopra, meanwhile, found it difficult against India but had shown promise with the bat during the T20I Tri-series against Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Aamir Kaleem vs Junaid Siddique
Oman’s Aamir Kaleem will be a key player, having impressed with figures of 3/31 against Pakistan. UAE’s Junaid Siddique, on the other hand, will look to make an impact with the ball and take crucial wickets against a struggling Oman.

Muhammad Waseem vs Jatinder Singh
UAE captain Muhammad Waseem scored 19 runs against India and his side was dismissed for just 57. He enters this tournament after strong performances in the T20I series against Pakistan and Afghanistan. Oman skipper Jatinder Singh will aim to outperform Waseem as the two sides meet in Abu Dhabi.
