Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a spectacular debut in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals with 252 runs in just seven matches, recently found himself in the spotlight for a different reason. Known for his composed and mature demeanour, the young Bihar-born batter displayed an uncharacteristic aggressive side during Day 1 of the second Youth Test against Australia U19.

While batting at 20 off 14 balls, Suryavanshi was given out caught behind off a delivery from Charles Lachmund. The umpire immediately signalled him out, as the ball had passed near the bat and was caught by the wicketkeeper. However, Suryavanshi contested the decision, insisting that “the ball had actually hit his pads and not the bat.”

To support his claim, he aggressively tapped his bat on his pads to convince the umpire, but the ruling remained unchanged. Visibly frustrated, the 14-year-old walked back to the dugout, leaving fans surprised by his reaction. His unusual display of aggression quickly went viral on social media, highlighting a different dimension of the young cricketer’s personality.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s prowess with the bat continues to draw attention. Recently, he recorded the fourth-fastest Youth Test century in history, reaching a ton in just 78 balls for India U19 against Australia U19. This achievement made him the only batter after Brendon McCullum to score two men’s U19 Test centuries in under 100 balls

That solidified his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket. His performances in the IPL and at the international youth level have consistently demonstrated his ability to dominate bowling attacks and handle pressure with maturity, further raising expectations for his cricketing future.

Calls for Senior Team Inclusion

Recognising Suryavanshi’s extraordinary potential, Zubin Bharucha, Rajasthan Royals’ Director of High Performance, has urged Indian selectors to accelerate his entry into the senior team. With such endorsements and his remarkable performances, Suryavanshi’s rise appears inevitable, positioning him as a future cornerstone of Indian cricket.

Bharucha emphasised, “He should be blooded into the senior team immediately, like Sachin was all those years ago. They have to blood this guy immediately, boss, because he is in another zone only. At least send him on an India A tour. Send him to India A immediately. I’m telling you, this Australian attack that is here, bowling to India A guys, he would have got a double hundred.”
